New Hounslow West business Association to tackle long-standing issues including fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour and parking.

More than 25 businesses in Hounslow West have joined a new association, formed after more than a year of development, to present a unified front on the problems that have long affected the high street.

The Hounslow West Business Association (HWBA) held its first meeting on August 20. The group was pioneered by Feltham and Heston MP Seema Malhotra and is supported by Hounslow Council leader Cllr Shantanu Rajawat.

At this first meeting, businesses raised concerns including the difficulty of parking, anti-social behaviour, street drinking and recurring fly-tipping. The association aims to create closer coordination between businesses, the Met and council enforcement teams to address problems affecting both traders and their customers, while also supporting the high street by encouraging initiatives to shop locally.

Fly-tipping is a longstanding issue in Hounslow. More than 23,000 fly-tipping incidents were reported to Hounslow Highways in 2025, placing the borough in the upper quartile of London boroughs for the number of reported incidents. However, council officers have recognised that the high figure reflects how easy it is to report fly-tipping in Hounslow through the FixMyStreet app, which is not used by all London boroughs.

The council has previously attempted to tackle the issue through a trial campaign by Keep Britain Tidy which targeted fly-tipping hotspots in Hounslow West and Cranford during 2024–25, but the council later reported that the intervention did not reduce fly-tipping in the targeted areas.

This new association comes as the council continues to review how it responds to related anti-social behaviour as it acknowledges that environmental issues such as fly-tipping and street cleanliness can affect residents’ perceptions of safety. It has also previously stated that improvements are needed in technology used for enforcement, including CCTV and handheld devices.

As Hounslow council is delivering a £1.5 million Pride in Place programme during 2026–27, set to include shopfront improvements in Hounslow West intended to create a more attractive and welcoming town centre and support local businesses, the new association is well placed to ensure traders’ needs are reflected in how that work is carried out.

Malhotra has stated on X and Instagram that the investment gives Hounslow West an opportunity to strengthen its identity and improve the area, while giving local businesses a stronger voice in decisions affecting the high street.

Going forward, the association plans to work with local authorities and police to implement strategies addressing the issues raised by traders, aiming to support the long-term future of Hounslow West’s high street.
