BBC Radio host Trevor Nelson has confirmed that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The 62-year-old broadcaster and DJ announced the news in an Instagram video, explaining that his”world was turned upside down” following the diagnosis, he has taken time away from work to fully recover.

He said:

“A lot of you may have seen the post that I put up at the start of summer, saying that I was stepping back from all my work commitments due to illness.

“There’s been a lot of speculation as to what’s wrong with me, I know that much.

“My phone’s blown up 20 times over with people asking what’s wrong with me.

“I was minding my own business and then it was discovered that I had a brain tumour.

“As you can imagine, I was shocked.

“In fact, my world was turned upside down.”

He said he decided to stop working because he “couldn’t be that guy on the radio knowing I had that going on.”

Just weeks after being diagnosed, Nelson had surgery and said the operation “went incredibly well”.

He has spent the past month recovering at home and having post-operative treatment.

Despite his serious condition, Nelson has declared himself “great” and ready to get back to broadcasting.

He said:

“I feel energised and almost back to myself.

“I’ve had a really serious situation but I’ve come out the other side and I feel great.

“I feel raring to go.

“I feel in good health.”

Trevor Nelson’s colleagues sent him well wishes, and he was grateful for their support.

BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball said:

“So good to see your face Trevor and learn that you’re doing well.

“Huge healing love to you wonderful man.”

Radio 1 presenter Melvin Odoom added:

“Sending love uncle Trev and looking forward to hearing you on the airwaves soon.”

Fearne Cotton added:

“We love you Trev. So happy you’re recovering well.”

The official account for BBC Radio 2 said that its team was sending “so much love”, adding: “Can’t wait to have you back.”

Nelson is famous for his show on BBC Radio 2 from 2pm to 4pm during the week and for his show on BBC Radio 1Xtra every Sunday morning. The announcement in June was of his stepping back from his work commitments due to health issues.
