Who were the victims?

As reported by the Metropolitan Police, Mohammad Hagila, 63, died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.

His wife, Diljan Hagila, 62, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died on Saturday, 6 June. Police also said a 29-year-old man in the same vehicle was treated in hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening or life-changing. The family continues to be supported by specially trained officers.

What charges were brought?

The Metropolitan Police said Brar was charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing death while uninsured, and failing to stop following a road traffic collision.

Police also said he was arrested after enquiries into the crash and that further allegations included dangerous driving, fraud, driving a stolen vehicle and theft of motor vehicle. The force said he was due to appear in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on 8 June.

What did the police say?

Acting Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, who is leading the investigation, described the case as “a truly tragic incident” in which two members of the public lost their lives, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The force asked anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact police on 101 using reference 01/7640380/26. It also said information could be shared anonymously through Crimestoppers.

How did the case develop?

The crash was first reported late on 1 June, and the police later confirmed the deaths and injuries after emergency services attended the scene.

On 7 June, the Metropolitan Police announced the charges, saying the suspect had been arrested the previous day. The latest development, based on the police statement, is that Brar has now pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter.

Background of the development

This case forms part of the wider response to serious road traffic collisions in west London, where police and ambulance teams often work together to secure the scene, treat casualties and gather evidence.

In this incident, officers said the vehicle allegedly fled after the crash, which is why the investigation included failing to stop as well as other driving-related offences.

The court process will now determine sentencing and any further legal consequences following the guilty pleas.

Prediction for affected readers

For motorists in west London and along the M4 corridor, the case is likely to sharpen attention on dangerous driving, insurance compliance and the duty to stop after a collision.

For the victims’ family and community, the legal proceedings may provide some clarity, but they will also extend the public focus on the aftermath of the crash.

For road users more broadly, the case may reinforce the importance of dashcam evidence and immediate reporting when a serious collision occurs.
